Buddleja davidi

Reve de Papillon

B. Reve de Papillon makes a broad bushy shrub, 150cm x 250cm, bearing erect broad terminal flowers of purplish-pink with grey-green foliage. The panicles are similar size to B. davidii ‘Gulliver’, a show stopper when in flower.

 History

Buddelja Reve de Papillon was found by Olivier Pallusiere of Minier Nursery, Beaufort-en-Vallée, France from an openly-pollinated ‘Royal Red’ in the stock plant area. At the time Olivier worked on the nursery before becoming a salesman a few years later.

Lots of Buddleja seedlings came up but Olivier did not weed out this particular plant because it had an exceptionally big and attractive flower.

It went into trials at Minier and the company has grown it ever since.
