A large semi deciduous shrub producing plumes of deep purple-red flowers throughout summer. Long mid green leaf with a felt like underside.

Fragrant flowers 20-25 cm long.

 History

Buddleja davidii ‘Royal Red’ is an old American cultivar raised by Karle A. Lucal and introduced by the Good & Reese nursery of Ohio, USA. Patented in 1942 and introduced to the UK after the Second World War. The shrub was accorded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Merit in 1950, and the Award of Garden Merit in 1993, this was reaffirmed 2010.
