Buddleja paniculata is a deciduous shrub bearing pale lavender flowers in panicles, strongly scented. The leaves are covered in fine grey hairs. We have a established plant by the Summer House and in frost free late spring, flowers well not as spectacular as Buddleja .farreii but a worthy plant in a collection.
History
Named and described by Danish botanist Nathaniel Wallich in1820 and introduced into the UK as seed from the Himalayas by Colonel Edward Madden to Glasnevin Botanic Garden, Ireland.
B. paniculata is native to Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces of China plus Bhutan, N India, Myanmar, Nepal and Vietnam where it grows on forest edges in mountains, open woodlands and thickets at altitudes of 500-3000m.
